The Contax G2 Titanium Black is a special finish variant of the 1996 Contax G2, differing from the standard titanium silver model only in its black-anodized titanium body finish. Mechanically and optically, it is identical to the standard G2: a passive-active hybrid autofocus rangefinder with a 1/6000s electronic shutter, aperture-priority and manual AE modes, and full compatibility with the seven-lens Carl Zeiss G-mount system. The black finish was produced alongside the standard titanium model at some point during the G2 production run and commands a premium on the used market.

Kyocera introduced the standard G2 in 1996 as an evolution of the original G1 (1994). Like its predecessor, it was offered in titanium silver as the default finish. The black titanium variant was produced as a premium cosmetic option, likely in limited quantities and sold predominantly in the Japanese domestic market. Production of all G-system cameras ceased in 2005 when Kyocera exited the camera business entirely. The black variant follows the same discontinuation timeline as the standard G2.
Among Contax G2 collectors and users, the black titanium finish is the most sought-after body variant. The matte black treatment over titanium reduces reflections in the field and gives the body a lower visual profile, which appeals to street and documentary photographers. Functionally it is equivalent to the standard G2, so the premium paid over the silver version is entirely cosmetic and collector-driven.
Like all G2 bodies, its significance rests on the G-mount lens system — the Biogon 21/2.8 and Planar 45/2 in particular are considered reference-quality Zeiss optics from the film era. The black body pairs visually with any of the G lenses and with Contax's TLA-series black flashes.
Full Contax G-mount lens compatibility (identical to the standard G2):
Accessories: Contax TLA-140 and TLA-200 flashes (black finish versions available), GD-2 data back, rare Power Pack P-9 battery grip.
