The Contax Aria 70 Years is a limited commemorative edition of the Contax Aria SLR, produced by Kyocera in 2002 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Contax brand, which traces its origin to 1932. The body itself is mechanically identical to the standard Aria: magnesium alloy chassis, multi-pattern silicon metering, full four-mode exposure automation, and an electronically controlled metal-blade shutter running to 1/4000s with a 1/200s flash sync. The distinguishing feature of the anniversary edition is its inclusion as a kit with the **Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 FA Limited** lens, a special limited-production variant of the standard C/Y-mount Planar 50mm f/1.4, finished in matching livery. The set was sold in a presentation box with anniversary documentation and is rarely seen broken up for sale as separate components.

The Contax brand was established in 1932 by Zeiss Ikon; the name and optical heritage were revived under a licensing arrangement with Yashica (later Kyocera) beginning in 1974 for the RTS. The 70-year mark fell in 2002, three years after Kyocera had introduced the Aria (1998) and one year before Kyocera would exit the C/Y SLR line in 2005. The anniversary edition was issued in that closing window, making it among the last limited-edition C/Y body sets produced. Kyocera had a history of anniversary and commemorative editions across the T-series compacts and the RTS III line; the Aria 70 Years follows that pattern, pairing a production body with a limited-run lens in a presentation kit.
The Aria 70 Years matters for two reasons that do not fully overlap. As a collector object, it represents one of the final limited-edition C/Y SLR sets issued before the entire system was discontinued, and the FA Limited Planar 50/1.4 is a separately desirable and scarce item. As a shooting camera, the Aria body is the same capable multi-mode SLR available as the standard Aria, with access to the full C/Y lens catalog; the bundled Planar 50/1.4 is a superb standard lens that stands on its own merits regardless of the anniversary context.
Complete kits in original presentation packaging are considerably scarcer than loose Aria bodies, and the FA Limited lens removed from a kit retains independent collector value. Pricing for a complete, documented kit in excellent condition reflects both the body and the lens premium.
Kit lens: Carl Zeiss Planar T 50mm f/1.4 FA Limited* (C/Y mount). The Aria body accepts all Contax/Yashica mount lenses:
Compatible flashes: Contax TLA-200, TLA-360 with TTL metering. Data back available for date imprinting.
