The Kowa H (1963) is a leaf-shutter 35mm SLR — distinctive because nearly all 35mm SLRs of the era used focal-plane shutters. **Leaf shutter in the lens** allows flash sync at all speeds (1/500s top sync — extremely fast for the era). M42 mount, manual exposure, TTL CdS metering. Made by Kowa (Japan, primarily an optics company).

Released 1963 as Kowa's experimental leaf-shutter 35mm SLR. Production ran 4 years. Kowa subsequently moved to medium format with the Kowa Six (1968).
For 2026 buyers, the Kowa H is a unique curio — leaf-shutter 35mm SLRs are extremely rare (only Kowa, Topcon Auto 100, and a few others tried this approach). Used at $80–250. The leaf shutter in lens is mechanically interesting.
M42 mount with Kowa leaf-shutter lenses (specific to Kowa H). Standard M42 lenses can mount but lack the leaf shutter functionality.
