Released 1987 to launch the KAF mount. Production ran 5 years until 1992 when the PZ-1 (1991, faster AF) replaced it. The SF1 was historically important as the first built-in-flash SLR — a feature now standard in consumer DSLRs.
For 2026 buyers, the SF1 is the cheapest entry into Pentax KAF / KAF2 lens compatibility. Used at $60–150. Trade-off: slow single-point AF (1980s-era), 2CR5 battery, plastic body.
Pentax KAF / KAF2 lenses with autofocus. Older K and KA lenses mount in manual focus.
