Profile notes
Leica MONOPAN 50 is a 135-format ISO 50/18° ultra-fine-grain black-and-white panchromatic film, announced on 18 June 2025 and available from 21 August 2025. It is Leica Camera AG's first-ever branded film, released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Leica I. The film is manufactured in Germany and is widely confirmed to be based on — or identical to — Adox HR-50, sharing the same 280 line pairs/mm resolution, spectral sensitivity extending to 780 nm (super-panchromatic, including near-infrared), and virtually matching spectral response curves, grain characteristics, and reciprocity figures. Recommended developers include four Adox products alongside Kodak HC-110 and Ilford ID-11. The film is available in 36-exposure cassettes and should be handled with care due to its thin-base, high-resolution coating.
