Released 1977. Production ran 13 years through the Soviet era. The FED brand ceased camera production around 1990 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Kharkiv factory's transition.
For 2026 buyers, the FED-5 is the "last new" Soviet LTM rangefinder. Used at $50–130, with the bonus of a selenium meter on the 5/5B variants. Trade-off: late-period Soviet QC was variable; verify body integrity.
